My Song in the Night — New to the LDS Hymnbook

My Song in the Night — A Hymn for the Hard Moments

I recorded “My Song in the Night” on a day that is sacred to me — the anniversary of my son Eli’s passing, six years ago. In the hardest days before and after his death, I went to the piano over and over again. I sang Peace in Christ until I could breathe and then I sang it again at his funeral. Music wasn’t a distraction from the grief — it was the way through it.

I chose to record this hymn on that day because I know what it means to need a song in the night, and I know that the Savior’s atonement and resurrection are not just beautiful doctrines. For me, in those days, they were the only light I could find.

The Sheet Music for this arrangement can be found here.

This arrangement moves from a tender and still opening into something full, joyful and hopeful by the end. It includes an original chorus that wasn’t in the traditional version. The PDF includes the vocal solo as recorded in the above music video, along with an SATB version of the song. The choral version could be beautiful for an LDS ward choir/Church choir, small ensemble, or quartet to perform.

I hope this arrangement finds whoever needs it.

Thank you for listening!!
