“Peaceful Piano Creation Story” ARTICLE Link
This video is made up of calming, simple LDS hymns & primary songs (performed as solo piano) that reflect the creation story, human identity, purpose and agency. I enjoy listening to calming, relaxing music from time to time when I feel a bit overstimulated or want to bring the Spirit into my home. That’s the sort of feel I was going for with this video. I also thought it would be fun to link these with January’s Come Follow Me curriculum. (for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). So I chose the hymns and songs that were listed in each lesson/section of January 2026 which focuses on parts of Genesis and the books of Moses & Abraham. Old Testament Come Follow Me 2026
Each section of the curriculum teaches specific truths reflected in these hymns & songs
- Introduction to the Old Testament
- The Old Testament testifies of Jesus Christ
- We are encouraged to learn of him & begin to understand that “Jesus Christ is our Treasure”
- “Seek the Lord Early,” (Children’s Songbook, 108).
- Covenants are a major theme of the Old Testament
- Baptism is one of those sacred covenants today that we can take steps toward from the age of 8 and up
- “When I Am Baptized” (Children’s Songbook, 103).
- Moses 1 Abraham 1 “This is My Work and My Glory”
- We are children of God and the Lord wants us to understand our true Identity
- “I Am a Child of God,” Hymns (1985), no. 301
- We lived as spirit children of God before we came to earth. We existed, learned & grew in our premortal life
- We were taught, learned of and accepted God’s plan to create the earth, come down & receive a body & accept Jesus Christ as our Savior to one day return again
- “I Will Follow God’s Plan” (Children’s Songbook, 164–65)
- Genesis 1-2; Moses 2-3; Abraham 4-5
- By God’s “Only begotten”, Jesus Christ, he created the earth.
- The Creation story teaches us is that God can, over time, make something magnificent out of something unorganized. That’s helpful to remember when life seems chaotic.
- Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are Creators, and Their creative work with us is not finished.
- “All Creatures of Our God and King” (Hymns, no. 62).
- We are all created in God’s “image” or “likeness,” male and female.
- “My Heavenly Father Loves Me” (Children’s Songbook, 228–29).
- Genesis 3-4; Moses 4-5
- We have all been given agency to choose
- “Choose the Right,” Hymns, no. 239.
- Our agency is a blessing. We are free to act for ourselves to choose good or evil
- “Choose the Right Way” (Children’s Songbook, 160–61).
It was fun and interesting for me to look at the whole of the month of January’s teachings through music. These truths are foundation and beautiful.
