Hello! As I Search the Holy Scriptures is a suggested hymn for the Book of Mormon lesson “I Will Go and Do” studying the 1 Nephi 1–5. This is a revamped version of a previous arrangement of this hymn I posted as the first video in this series back in July 2022.
It’s exciting to be getting into the text of the Book of Mormon! Part of the story in these first five chapters is a difficult journey for Lehi’s son’s to return to Jerusalem and obtain the plates of brass, under commandment from God. This was a record of the Jews and they understood by revelation that this record would be vital in helping preserve the commandments of God for their future posterity. This family understood how sacred and precious these writings were and were courageous and inspired to be able to receive them.
- 21 And we had obtained the records which the Lord had commanded us, and searched them and found that they were desirable; yea, even of great worth unto us, insomuch that we could preserve the commandments of the Lord unto our children.

One prominent message in the Book of Mormon is the “great worth” of the word of God (1 Nephi 5:21). As you read 1 Nephi 1–5, look for ways the word of God directly or indirectly blessed Lehi’s family (for example, see 1:11–15; 3:19–20; 5:10–22). What do these chapters teach you about the word of God? What do you find that inspires you to search the scriptures?
