My Song in the Night — A Hymn for the Hard Moments

My Song in the Night — A Hymn for the Hard Moments

I recorded My Song in the Night on a day that is sacred to me — the anniversary of my son Eli’s passing, six years ago. In the hardest days before and after his death, I went to the piano over and over again. I sang Peace in Christ until I could breathe and then I sang it again at his funeral. Music wasn’t a distraction from the grief — it was the way through it. I chose to record this hymn on that day because I know what it means to need a song in the night, and I know that the Savior’s atonement and resurrection are not just beautiful doctrines. For me, in those days, they were the only light I could find.

Sunday Will Come

Sunday Will Come

I began writing this song in April 2021 after discovering Elder Wirthlin’s talk, ‘Sunday Will Come.’ At the time, it had been nearly a year since Eli passed away, and I was finally starting to feel a deeper sense of healing than I had in the months prior. Six months ago, I revisited the piece to refine what I’d originally written. While the melody, structure, and lyrics have changed significantly to make the message clearer for every listener, the heart of the song remains the same. It is still a story of endurance, healing, and finding hope through the power, mercy & resurrection of Christ.

Songwriting and Producing Clips for “After Today”

Brainstorming – This song is about an event in my life, the death of our child. But I also tried to write it in a way that would apply to anyone who has cared for a terminally ill loved one who has passed on. Writing it helped me to process everything that happened and to maintain some hope along with it. It’s a brutal topic and a heavy one, I realize that, but hopefully it will touch some hearts.
