High On the Mountain Top – BOM

Hello! High on the Mountain Top is a suggested hymn to go along with the Book of Mormon lesson “His Name Shall Be Called … The Prince of Peace”  studying 2 Nephi 11–19. This is a piano solo arrangement of an upbeat hymn centered around the blessings of the covenants God makes with his children through modern day temples. The song conveys the idea that God invites all to come unto him and receive the promises of old, today, in our day.

  • 2 Nephi 12:2  2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, when the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths; for out for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

The Come Follow Me manual gives a few questions to consider and study about this topic:

  • Isaiah called the temple “the mountain of the Lord’s house” (2 Nephi 12:2). Why is a mountain a good symbol for the temple? How would you explain to someone why we need temples? You could find some possible answers in 2 Nephi 12:2–3 and President Russell M. Nelson’s message “The Temple and Your Spiritual Foundation” (Liahona, Nov. 2021, 93–96). Based on what you read, what does the Lord want you to learn and experience in His holy house? What experiences have you had there?

I don’t know how you think of all those variations, Marilee. Great job on that energetic piece. I loved it.
