Here is an instrumental arrangement of I Love to See the Temple to go along with the Come Follow Me Sunday School Lesson for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This lesson draws from Ezra 1; 3–7; Nehemiah 2; 4–6; 8 and is called “I Am Doing a Great Work”
The song “I Love to See the Temple” was written by Janice Kapp Perry. Janice is a prolific songwriter, having written over 3,000 songs, some of which are in the LDS Children’s Songbook (as this one is) and the LDS hymnbook.
The reason this song fits well with this lesson is that in Ezra 3, the Jews, after a long period of captivity, are allowed to return to Jerusalem. 70 years earlier, when they had been taken captive, the temple and much of Jerusalem had been plundered and burned to the ground. For them, being able to return meant that they could go back and rebuild not only their lives, traditions and religion, but the temple.
Ezra 3:11 “…And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid…when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, they wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy”
Our modern temples today offer no less peace and joy to the people who attend them. They dot the world and provide eternal blessings to all who enter their sacred walls.
