- 2 And again I say, hearken unto my voice, lest death shall overtake you; in an hour when ye think not the summer shall be past, and the harvest ended, and your souls not saved.
This verse stood out to me as Jesus Christ’s true motivation…to save our souls. All the commandments we have, everything he teaches us and all he has done for us is out of love. It is motivated by a desire for our happiness, progress and eternal exaltation. He wishes to lift us beyond where we are capable of on our own.
- 3 Listen to him who is the advocate with the Father, who is pleading your cause before him
“Pleading” is strong language. How beautiful is this, that Jesus Christ, in consequence of his taking our sins and infirmities upon him is pleading our case before the Father. He stands ready to bridge the gap between us and home.
- 4 Saying: Father, behold the sufferings and death of him who did no sin, in whom thou wast well pleased; behold the blood of thy Son which was shed, the blood of him whom thou gavest that thyself might be glorified; 5 Wherefore, Father, spare these my brethren that believe on my name, that they may come unto me and have everlasting life.
The hymn “I Stand All Amazed” is unequaled in it’s ability to express the sentiments of how many us feel about the role he takes on to advocate for and save each of us.
