This week, I am posting a vocal arrangement of our Come Follow Me suggested song, “I Want to Live the Gospel” found in the LDS Children’s Songbook. My arrangement may sound a bit different than the original, both rhythmically and melodically. I also wrote two short additional verses to add to the length and depth of the song. This week’s Come Follow Me Lesson is on the book of Daniel and there are quite a few examples of Daniel and other figures living gospel principles in the face of great adversity. A few might be Daniel and others keeping their law of the word of wisdom, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego refusing to worship idols and Daniel being throw into a den of lions for continuing to pray to God when commanded not to:
- Daniel 1:8 ¶ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
- Daniel 3:14-18 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. 17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. 18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
- Daniel 6:7-10 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions. 9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree. 10 ¶ Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
“I Want to Live the Gospel”, references it’s lyrics from the following scripture:
-
- 2 Nephi 31: 20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.

What a motivating message. I loved every verse. Well done, writing the two new ones. Just right.
