This week, I am posting a vocal arrangement of our Come Follow Me suggested song, “Israel, Israel, God is Calling” from the LDS Hymnbook. It is a strong song discussing the ongoing gathering of Israel. This lesson studies chapters 1-20 in the book of Jeremiah.. and the following sections speak of how all of the children of Israel (which are scattered throughout all the earth…many of us), the Gentiles – really anyone who has a desire to come unto the Lord, are being gathered from all nations, kindreds and tongues to become God’s covenant people.
- Jeremiah 16:14 ¶ Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be said, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
- 15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
- 16 ¶ Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the Lord, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.
- 19 O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
- 21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The Lord.
At the bottom of “Israel, Israel, God is Calling”, it lists the scripture reference that it draws its text from. It is Doctrine and Covenants 133:7-16

- D&C 133 – 10 Yea, let the cry go forth among all people: Awake and arise and go forth to meet the Bridegroom; behold and lo, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Prepare yourselves for the great day of the Lord. 11 Watch, therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour. 12 Let them, therefore, who are among the Gentiles flee unto Zion. 13 And let them who be of Judah flee unto Jerusalem, unto the mountains of the Lord’s house. 16 Hearken and hear, O ye inhabitants of the earth. Listen, ye elders of my church together, and hear the voice of the Lord; for he calleth upon all men, and he commandeth all men everywhere to repent.
Israel, Israel, God is Calling was written by Richard Smyth, 1838-1914 (Text) and Charles C. Converse, 1832 – 1918 (Music).
