Let the Holy Spirit Guide Post
Let the Holy Spirit Guide is a hymn recommended in the lesson “That You May Come Off Conqueror” Feb 10-16, 2025. But it also goes very well with the lesson from the week before it, “This Is the Spirit of Revelation” Feb 3-9, 2025. I included some clips from the video “Days of Harmony” referenced in that lesson in which Oliver Cowdery comes to know for himself the truthfulness of the work of the restoration.

Some of the scriptures that stood out to me from these two lessons are:
15 Behold, thou knowest that thou hast inquired of me and I did enlighten thy mind; and now I tell thee these things that thou mayest know that thou hast been enlightened by the Spirit of truth; 16 Yea, I tell thee, that thou mayest know that there is none else save God that knowest thy thoughts and the intents of thy heart. (Doctrine & Covenants Chapter 6)
22 Verily, verily, I say unto you, if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things. 23 Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God? (Doctrine & Covenants Chapter 6)
2 Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart. (Doctrine & Covenants Chapter 8)
7 Behold, you have not understood; you have supposed that I would give it unto you, when you took no thought save it was to ask me. 8 But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right. (Doctrine & Covenants Chapter 9)
5 Therefore, if you will ask of me you shall receive; if you will knock it shall be opened unto you. 10 Behold, thou hast a gift, or thou shalt have a gift if thou wilt desire of me in faith, with an honest heart, believing in the power of Jesus Christ, or in my power which speaketh unto thee; 11 For, behold, it is I that speak; behold, I am the light which shineth in darkness, and by my power I give these words unto thee. 12 And now, verily, verily, I say unto thee, put your trust in that Spirit which leadeth to do good—yea, to do justly, to walk humbly, to judge righteously; and this is my Spirit. 13 Verily, verily, I say unto you, I will impart unto you of my Spirit, which shall enlighten your mind, which shall fill your soul with joy; 14 And then shall ye know, or by this shall you know, all things whatsoever you desire of me, which are pertaining unto things of righteousness, in faith believing in me that you shall receive. (Doctrine & Covenants Chapter 11)
The Lord is so generous with his Spirit and with his desire to enlighten and lead us, his children. But…we have to put forth effort to study, listen, ponder, believe and exercise faith. We need to be willing to write down our promptings and act on them! I love all these scriptures above because they give descriptions of how we might access more spiritual gifts, power and enlightenment in our lives. I think there is much to learn from these sections that will be truly essential for our lives today!
I try to do something regularly that I call “Pray with Paper”. It is just simply praying with the intention of seeking to know God’s will for you in whatever parts of your life you need guidance, or who to reach out to that day or whatever might be going on…WITH a piece of paper (or a phone) nearby to write down whatever comes to your mind as you listen for an answer to your question(s). I have been doing this regularly for about three years now and still, every time, it takes faith and trust for me to listen and write down those thoughts. As I am getting the document open on my phone and getting ready to bow my head, often Satan whispers, “the Lord isn’t going to speak to you” or “You haven’t gotten any spiritual promptings in a long time, I doubt it will happen” and then I have to reject those thoughts and just trust and act in faith that he will let me know what his will is for me, if not right at that moment, sometime. The point isn’t necessarily to get quick answers, the point is to learn to listen for and recognize when the Spirit is speaking to you. Over these last few years of doing this, I have often just barely started my prayer when something comes to my mind that I had forgotten to do, or a thought to serve someone or a reminder to remember a certain principle that day comes to me…and I write it down immediately and then try to act on that prompting that day if possible. It is a beautiful thing. Just from this simple act, my love and connection with God has grown so much and I feel better able to receive guidance and revelation for my life. God is so generous!!
