On a Golden Springtime on YouTube
I was asked to transcribe the sheet music for a vocal version I did of this song. The person requesting it was going to use it for their primary to sing for Easter. As I transcribed it, I adjusted the vocal to be more conducive to a large primary class rather than a vocal solo and updated the sheet music. I wanted to make a lyric video that matched the sheet music better so I made this video. This song is also a beautiful one to listen to for our study of Easter week. The sheet Music can be found here:
I love how this song talks about God’s creations in the first verse, which makes me think of the circle of life with all plant, animal and human life. In the second verse it then testifies that “on a golden springtime, Jesus Christ awoke”. Wow! This is the best news in the history of all news. This is the pinnacle on which all of Christianity stands. We’ve been told in general conference recently that without the resurrection there would be no New Testament and no Christian religion. The 3rd verse then references Jesus Christ appearing to Joseph Smith along with the Father. This appearance is a second witness, a modern witness that Jesus Christ lives and that he is involved in our world today and in building up his gospel. He has offered us all the gift of resurrection and the gift of repentance. This doctrine gives me so much peace. It is a beautiful doctrine that is really the foundation of all we believe as Christians and latter day saints.
The Come Follow Me Manual this week says:
April 3, 1836, was Easter Sunday. After helping administer the sacrament to Saints in the newly dedicated Kirtland Temple, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery found a quiet place behind a veil and bowed in silent prayer. Then, on this sacred day when Christians everywhere were commemorating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the risen Savior Himself appeared in His temple, declaring, “I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain” (Doctrine and Covenants 110:4).
What does it mean to say that Jesus Christ is “he who liveth”? It doesn’t just mean that He rose from the tomb and appeared to His disciples in Galilee. It means that He lives today. He speaks through prophets today. He leads His Church today. He heals wounded souls and broken hearts today. So we can echo the words of Joseph Smith’s powerful testimony: “After the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony … which we give of him: That he lives!” (Doctrine and Covenants 76:22). We can hear His voice in these revelations, witness His hand in our lives, and feel “the joy this sentence gives: ‘I know that my Redeemer lives!’” (Hymns, no. 136).
I did an arrangement of I Know that My Redeemer Lives here.
Thank you so much for listening!
