The Lord Gave Me a Temple, from the Children’s Songbook, is the suggested song for the New Testament lesson “Be Perfectly Joined Together” studying 1 Corinthians 1–7. One of the scripture references for this song is 1 Corinthians 3:16–17 which is within our lesson studies. On the topic of the sacred nature of our bodies, these lyrics are written from the concepts Paul taught to the people of Corinth along with modern revelation found in the Doctrine and Covenants (D&C 88:27–29).
For this week’s song I created a late intermediate (i.e. level of the piano skill required) arrangement of The Lord Gave Me a Temple that can be used as a piano solo or piano accompaniment for a soloist or group of singers. Within chapters 1 – 7 of 1st Corinthians some of the principles Paul expands on are; members of Christ’s church should strive to be united, to accomplish God’s work we should rely on his wisdom and not the wisdom of the world, we need the Holy Ghost in order to understand spiritual truths, and every human body is sacred.
In the Come Follow Me Manual it says:
“Most people in Corinth felt that sexual immorality was acceptable and that their bodies were made primarily for pleasure. In other words, Corinth was not that different from the world today. What did Paul teach in 1 Corinthians 6:13–20 that could help you explain to others why you want to live a chaste life?
Like Paul, Sister Wendy W. Nelson encouraged Saints to be chaste; see her message “Love and Marriage” (worldwide devotional for young adults, Jan. 8, 2017, broadcasts.ChurchofJesusChrist.org). According to Sister Nelson, what blessings come from living the Lord’s standards concerning love and intimacy?”
Paul and the leaders of the Church today are having to teach contrary to what much of the prevalent culture of our time and times past have taught about love and marriage.
