He Sent His Son (original 2nd verse)

Happy Music Monday – There are certain projects that just come together quickly and others that take revision after revision until they feel complete. This little project was a suddenly inspiring and quick process. I was singing the song and I can’t remember exactly why, but decided to try and write out some lyrics for a second verse. I can’t even recall what made me think of it or gave me the idea?

The song – “He Sent His Son” is from the Children’s Songbook (songbook for the primary children ages 3-12) used in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I love this song, it is one of my favorites. It doesn’t need a second verse, but I thought there were some things that could be added. Some things that feel true to me. To me it is a kind of second witness to the message of the first verse.

Although, I haven’t recorded it, I still wanted to share the sheet music with you. I may record it someday in the future, but for now, here is the free download.

Verse 1:

How could the Father tell the world of love and tenderness? He sent his Son, a newborn babe, with peace and holiness. How could the Father show the world the pathway we should go? He sent his Son to walk with men on earth, that we may know. How could the Father tell the world of sacrifice, of death? He sent his Son to die for us and rise with living breath. What does the Father ask of us? What do the scriptures say? Have faith, have hope, live like his Son, help others on their way.

Verse 2:

How could the Father give to us, all that he has to give? He sent his Son to make a path, a way that we may live. How could the Father gather us, back to his loving arms? He sent his Son to build the bridge, to lead us far from harm. How could the Father tell us all, how much we mean to him? He sent his Son to rescue us and he will come again. What does the Father ask of us? What do the prophets say? Come unto him, remember him. Choose the right way.
