I picked “Let Zion in Her Beauty Rise” from the LDS Hymnal, for our song this week. I think it goes well with the scripture passages and is a beautiful hymn. It was really fun arranging a Viola part to go along with it. I had never done that before! I got my good friend Janei Evans, to play it and she did such an amazing job!
This hymn bases some of it’s text from the following scripture:
- D&C 82:14 For aZion must increase in bbeauty, and in choliness; her borders must be enlarged; her dstakes must be strengthened; yea, verily I say unto you, Zion must earise and put on her fbeautiful garments.
I feel that scripture really speaks to thefollowing message Jesus gave as part of his sermon on the mount:
- Matthew 5:
- 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
- 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
- 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
This week’s Come Follow Me lesson is studying Matthew 5 and Luke 6 and is titled “Blessed Are Ye.”
In the manual its says:
“By this point in His ministry, it was clear that Jesus’s teachings would be unlike what the people of His time were used to hearing. The poor will receive the kingdom of God? The meek will inherit the earth? Blessed are the persecuted? The scribes and Pharisees were not teaching such things. And yet those who truly understood God’s law recognized truth in the Savior’s words. “An eye for an eye” and “hate thine enemy” were lesser laws (Matthew 5:38, 43). But Jesus Christ had come to teach a higher law (see 3 Nephi 15:2–10), designed to help us one day become “perfect, even as [our] Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48)”.
“Let Zion in Her Beauty Rise” was composed by: Text: Edward Partridge, 1793–1840 and Music: Anon., Württemberg, Germany, ca. 1784

Great viola arrangement and excellent viola playing! Well done, both of you! I appreciate you connecting this hymn to this lesson material.
