Where Love Is

This week, I am posting a vocal arrangement of our Come Follow Me suggested song, “Where Love is”. We are studying Proverbs and Ecclesiastes which are books that have been called “wisdom literature”, presenting timeless advice or discussing deep, philosophical questions. Proverbs offers counsel on how to live well, including wise sayings collected and passed down from earlier generations. And Ecclesiastes calls into question the purpose of life itself—when everything seems fleeting and random, where do we find true meaning?

The song “Where Love is” comes from the LDS Children’s Songbook, a song added to the 1989 edition. It shares the message that anywhere pure love is, God also dwells. In the poetry of Proverbs it says “1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger…18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.” (proverbs 15:1,18) and 24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. 32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. (Proverbs 16:24,32).

What is the opposite of anger? Love! Which emotion inspires a soft answer or being slow to anger? Love!

“Where Love is was written by Joanne Doxey, Norma B. Smith and Marjorie Kjar. The scripture referenced at the bottom of the song is: Alma 13: 28-29 28 But that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear, and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering; 29 Having faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest
