High on the Mountain Top

This week, I am posting a piano arrangement of our Come Follow Me suggested song, High On the Mountain Top. We will be studying the book of Isaiah for the next 5 weeks and this week, chapters 1-12 are the focus.

High on the Mountain Top, is a hymn that based its text off of the prophecies of Isaiah, specifically chapters 2 and 5.

Isaiah 2: 2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Isaiah 5: 26 ¶ And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly:

This hymn seems to rejoice in prophecy being fulfilled in the restoration of priesthood keys for temple work; both for the living and the dead.

High on the Mountain Top was written by Joel H. Johnson (text) and Ebenezer Beesley (Music) added to the LDS hymnbook in the late 1800’s.
