Happy Music Monday! Here is the sheet music for I’m Gonna Be There. I have a love for Jazz music that grew during my college years. I was in a group at Utah State University called the Sunburst Singers and we did a lot of Big Band/Jazz music and I even wrote a few arrangements in that style during that time. I wanted to explore my inner jazz with this song. I’ve attached the Voice/Piano sheet music and lead sheet as a free download.
This song partakes in what I think are some classic jazz principles. Some of these principles include swinging eighth notes, triplets, 7ths chords and minor 7th chords.
I included a piano interlude and some fillers (faster melodic variations other than chord structures) in key parts of the song and even dabbled in some vocal scat/improvisation.
To add contrast and depth to the song, I played the third verse much softer and brought it up an octave.
Overall, I’m happy with the composition and recording. It’s not perfect, but I think it’s good and that’s good enough for me! Have a great week.
