Amazing Grace has been added to the new LDS hymnbook! Yay. I remember that the first time we sang it in my ward in sacrament meeting about 6 months ago, it was a powerful experience. Everyone already knew the hymn well and we just sang it out. It is a powerful song. The Church referenced the following scriptures on the sheet music of this newly added hymn.
2 Corinthians 12: 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Moroni 10:32Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.33 And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.
Through many dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come.
His grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
Moroni 10 teaches me that I shouldn’t deny the power of Christ and his ability to save me through his Grace, His crucifixion, His covenant & His atonement…..in my efforts to come unto Him with whatever love of God I have the mind, mind and strength for. And that by this, I can and will become holy, without spot! What an amazing promise!!
