Dare to Do Right

The story of Esther is an inspirational one for sure. I am sure Esther was afraid when she thought about coming before the King and possibly being put to death as she petitioned for her people. In Esther 4:11 she says, “All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.” Can you sense her fear in that verse? Without fear, there is no courage…for bravery is doing what’s right despite feelings of fear.

After Mordecai inspired her and encouraged her…”Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews….who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”, she accepted that she may die. In Esther 4:16 says “Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me….I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.”

Dare to Do Right is the suggested song for this Come Follow Me lesson. It is from the LDS Children’s Songbook and it is by Words: George L. Taylor, b. 1835. Music: William B. Bradbury, 1816–1868; arr. by A. C. Smyth, 1840–1909. I don’t remember singing this song much as a child at Church, but it was fun getting to know it. I arranged it to make it my own by changing the melody during the Chorus and some of the lyrics as well.

Thanks for watching and listening.
